Washed silk, and how to keep it

Our silk is pre-washed twice before cutting. Here is how to care for it so it outlasts the season.

Washed silk, and how to keep it

Washed silk is silk with the nerves taken out. Two gentle washes before cutting mean the fabric has already shrunk, already softened, already decided what it wants to be.

At home

Cold water, a drop of neutral soap, no wringing. Roll it in a towel, hang it on a wide hanger away from the sun. Steam on low if you must; iron through a cloth if you know what you are doing.

A silk blouse cared for this way does not age — it acquires manners.
